Bethesda's Rage 2 has ended Days Gone's three week stint at the top of the UK Boxed Charts.
Despite charting a place higher than the first game (Rage launched the week after FIFA 12 back in October 2011), the sequel hasn't come close to matching the original. In fact, Rage 2 physical sales are just a quarter of what the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC game manage.
Of course, digital has grown significantly since 2011. GSD data suggests that digital downloading can account for up to 50% of console sales in the UK. If that's the case in this instance, that would still means Rage 2 has sold half of what its original managed during the same time period. Note: Bethesda is one of the few major games publishers that refuses to share digital sales figures.
The game sold best on PS4, accounting for 57% of sales, followed by Xbox One on 38%. PC accounted for 5%, although the majority of PC sales will have come via Steam.
It continues to be a weak physical games market, which does mean some more unusual games are managing to score decent chart positions. A Plague's Tale: Innocence from Asobo Studios and Focus Home Interactive manages to reach No.9.
The only other new game in the Top 40 is the remastered version of Sniper Elite Version 2, which makes No.13 - just 100 units from reaching the Top Ten. The game sold best on PS4 (49% of sales), followed by Xbox One (30%) and then Nintendo Switch (21%).
