    Default Nand backup

Why do some guides describe back up the nand as "dangerous". Is there anything risk with backing up the nand.

writing to NAND is dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

backing up nand is perfectly safe and fine.

Having a backup will save your PSP's life
    by all means backup.

Yes, B2K24 is correct. Just don't try to flash a bricked PSP with any NAND other than it's own, as it can destroy the idStorage, and there is no way to get it back other than a NAND dump from the bricked PSP. So you're a bit screwed if you forgot to back up the NAND first.
