While the PSP was the center of attention in Japan today following announcements regarding the PSP-3000's release and updated network functionality, Sony did make one major announcement for the PS3.

The company announced the Wireless Headset, a Bluetooth headset for the PS3. The device hooks on to your ear and features noise canceling technology for high quality sound. Running on an internal lithium battery, which is charged when you place the device on an included cradle, players can get 8 hours of continuous use.

PS3 titles will support the device at the software level. Players will be able to check remaining battery charge, switch muting on and off, and adjust volume level through software. This will presumably be done by entering the XMB interface during your play sessions. The device also has external volume and mute controls.

Sony will offer the Wireless Headset to Japan on October 30 for 5,000 yen. That price includes the headset itself, the charging cradle, a 0.3m USB cable, and replacement ear pieces.
