KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories is the essential piece that bridges the gap between KINGDOM HEARTS and KINGDOM HEARTS II. A full 3D remake of the original Game Boy Advance release (2004), it was released in Japan in 2007 as part of the KINGDOM HEARTS II Final Mix+ compilation before finally making its way to North America. Combined with the card battle system of the original GBA release, KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories presents KINGDOM HEARTS fans with an entirely new playing experience.

I've gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with the job they've done in upgrading this game. If anyone here tried to play CoM on the GBA and gave up in frustration, play this version.

There are some minute gameplay adjustments that were only possible with the addition of more buttons, and the 3-D arenas for fighting just feel more natural than the 2-D battles on the GBA. Add to that a 'Beginner Mode' that sweetens card drops and makes enemies more managable, this version is DEFINITELY a smart move.

There's a lot less voice acting in Re: CoM than in the other PS2 KH games, but t'be honest, I wasn't expecting any at all. The fact that there are fully voiced and animated cutscenes was a delightful surprise. One thing I noticed is that when Sora holds up a card to open a new door, the precise card you've chosen is clearly identifyable in his hand. Excellent detail, Squeenix!

If you've been wanting a 'new' Kingdom Hearts story, and can't wait for the DS and PSP versions to release, pick this baby up. This is no half-assed port.
