You can change the font in DSLinux without having to recompile it now. Check the DSLinux wiki for information on modifying the rc.conf file to change the font upon bootup.
I realize DS linux does this, to an extent. However the font DSlinux uses is tiny, and i want something standalone, much like how clirc operates, except instead of connecting to IRC, connecting to different MU type addresses. Granted you'd only get forty characters per line with a halfway readable font, so things might appear a bit funky, but the price one pays for actually being able to read I suppose.
Is anyone else, at all, other than me interested?

Tried DSlinux this past weekend, and it apparently fubared the settings on the rest of my flash cart.
Probably because i'm using a GnM cart.
