Exclamation What's with the increased difficulty in getting PS2 memory cards?

I'm finding it so astoundingly difficult to find a good store which sells PS2 Memory Cards that are...

    a) brand new
    b) official, trustworthy ones and not fake
    c) decently, humanely cheap.

I'm only interested in Sony's official 8MB jobs atm. Yet there are plenty of stores which advertise them in their list only to say "PSYCHE! We're out of stock and can't be arsed to do anything about it. YOU HAVE SUSTAINED A LETHAL INJURY."

Also, is it just me or have all the nice colourful editions been discontinued? They don't seem to be as prominent as the usual black ones.

This situation saddens me. Why keep manufacturing a nine/ten-year-old console if you have no intention of keeping accessories in decent stock as well?

Probably varies by where you live. My local WalMart still has plenty of Sony PS2 memory cards for the same price as always.

You'd probably be able to find something like that in any video game oriented store like Gamestop or EB Games.

If not there, try Walmart like JLF65 said. They still fully support Playstation 2 in all the Walmarts around me.

Perhaps now's a good time for me to point out I'm based in the UK.

And I'm not sure about using unofficial ones. Aren't they more likely to be buggy, and have random problems with things? I'm just wondering how compatible with FreeMC et al non-Sony cards are.

I can tell you from personal experience that FreeMC Boot CAN be installed on the 16MB MemCard that comes with the PAR Max Evo. ^^d
