ps3 PS3 From Bad To Worse: Game Publishers Abandoning Sony's Console (SNE)

Bethesda Softworks' "Fallout 3," available for the PC, X360, and PS3, is the type of videogame publishers dream of making: Critically and commercially successful, Fallout swept "best of" lists in the gaming press last year, winning "Game of the Year" accolades on Gamasutra, Gamespy, Gamesradar, IGN, and numerous other high-profile sites.

Even better, once players finish the game's core storyline, fans can download even more "post-game" content from Bethesda to extend the experience.

But not if they have a PS3.

Bethesda said this weekend they're only making new post-game content available to Xbox 360 and PC owners.

We don't know if Bethesda is in the middle of a spat with Sony (SNE), or if the company just realized it sells so many more copies for the X360 that the effort of PS3 development isn't worth it.

But this couldn't be worse news for Sony: The company pitches the PS3 as the premium device, but Microsoft's (MSFT) cheaper Xbox will deliver a far-superior experience of 2008's best game.

Flagging PS3 sales are one thing -- but game publishers abandoning the platform is something altogether more serious. Sony needs to turn the situation around for the PS3 fast.

UPDATE: A Sony spokesperson contacted SAI about this story, and pointed out some upcoming titles like Electronic Arts' (ERTS) "Red Alert 3" will have content exclusive to the PS3. Fair enough.

Microsoft spends loads on exclusive stuff
Sony really doesn't so, what's the big deal about this really?
It's no surprise in my opinion
And the way game companies are, if there is a contract that will expire the DLC will hit the competitor at a later time.

To also add, consoles seem to have a lot fewer exclusives(at least the only consoles anyone considers competitors), so DLC Exclusitivity seems to be a way of persuading people nowadays.

I know consoles have exclusives, so there is no use in saying "Well they still have their exclusive games, durrr."
I was just making a point on DLC, so yeah.

    worst title ever.

seriousely, what a bad title. there aren't "publishers," there is a publisher, it's singular. also, they aren't abandoning the ps3, they're just not releasing a set of DLC.

    God damn you fanboy!
Publiseres announced that they make more money on the PS3 than the other consoles. Also PS3 was the console of the Year in 2008, and it has lots and lots of exclusives comming up for 2009. You just stick on a small fact trying to draw attention! REMEMBER Our PSN is free!

If microsoft wasn't giving $$$ for exclusives, the Xbot would be dead a lot time ago.

personally, i think abandoning the PS3 is the worst route a company can have.

The Xbox360 just moves from one faulty hardware design to another.

Sure, console lives are getting longer, but the entire conceptual design of the 360 has failed, and it won't last long term.

The PS2 was a bitch to program for as well, and not only has it lasted a good 6+ years, its still got some of the best titles.

Developers, however, are just lazy and prefer to use the easy to use, and highly bug prone xbox devkits, rather then the PS3 devkit, which actually holds a developer to code perfection.

Electronic Arts aside, how many sony games have you seen crash on the console, compared to Xbox360?
