    Default [Preview] Sonic Dash

Hey there, I thought that now is a good time to preview my latest project, Sonic Dash. Me and a friend have been working on this for a few weeks now, during our college breaks, and it's taking really great shape. It's really aimed for the PSP but because there are Lua players for other platforms it shouldn't be too hard to port over. At the moment though, I'm aiming for a PC and PSP release. Here is a few screenshots below:

    The Icon on the XMB.

The Sega Screen, the palette rotates like in the classic Megadrive games.

    The Title Screen.

    And the little testing arena.

    Planned Releases:
I don't have any fixed dates but here is when I would feel like the project could get released:

Tech Demo Release - When all of Sonic's Movement has been completed, maybe a few objects too.
Demo #1 - When the first level has been completed.
Demo #2 - When the first 3 levels have been completed.
Full Release - When everything has been done.

At the moment, the tech demo release is just around the corner if any more assignments don't get in the way.

    Levels:

    6 Zones:
    - Shady Grove - Tropical Island Cliché
    - Dusty Castle - Ancient Ruins cliché
    - Poole Cavern - Underwater cliché
    - Launch Fairway - Base cliché
    - Sunset Canyon - Desert Cliché(ish)
    - Robotnik Utopia - Large Factory cliché
(Each Zone contains 2 full acts plus one boss zone (Like in Sonic CD))

It would be a great help if you have any unused sprites of anything Sonic related lying around too, please reply if you want to contribute, we are also looking for lua programmers or any unwanted Sonic/Platformer Source Codes too since then I can recycle old bits of code for the source to this game. Finally, if you are interested in helping with the progress of this game in one way or another then like I said above, please reply below.

    Credits:
    Me - Obviously.
James - For rewriting my horrible code and making it awesome. =P
Black Squirrel - For letting me use his awesome art for the first zone.
    Nebula - Sonic Sprites

Looking good! I love those old 2D Sonics. This has just the right look. Now if it has the right feel, it'll be the perfect Sonuc.

Not sure which charicters you are going to have in the game but here's a few good sprites
    Tails:http://www.themysticalforestzone.com...ails_SA_DB.gif
    Shadow:http://www.themysticalforestzone.com...w/ShadowCN.gif
    Dr.Eggman:http://www.themysticalforestzone.com...eebs_Sep08.png

None of those are mine, I got them here:http://www.themysticalforestzone.com/Sprite_section.htm

Hey there, I'm only going to be planning to have Sonic and Eggman in the actual game, but Tails and Knuckles do make a cameo appearence during the cutscenes, but I'm not going to give away too much just yet.

    Anyway, update time:

The background is only a rough edit, but hopefully you can see the direction I am heading for with the background.

    Alright update time, folks!

Just to bulk out the screen I made a quick background, sure it's not the greatest, but hey it's generic and just gets rid of a bit of empty space on the screen, keep in mind that Sonic is standing on a fairly low stretch of land too, so the layout would also fill more of the screen up!

I'm also wondering if there are any lua coders out there that could lend a hand, or, if someone has got time on their hands move this project over to C++ since I'm interested in using OSlib. There is a Sample game that I could use as a base, but all the comments and variables are in French, so if anyone has a good understanding of French and is willing to translate, please send me a PM!

    As always, feedback is welcome!

Have you made anymore progress with this?
    I'm looking forward to playing!
