CoD 4 leads BAFTA 09 nominations list

The nominations for this year's BAFTA Videogames Awards have been released with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare topping the list.

The hugely popular shooter is up for seven separate awards, and is just eligible for nomination by being released after the last BAFTA event in late 2007.

Grand Theft Auto IV will have raised no eyebrows in picking up six nominations, while LittleBigPlanet and Fable II take five apiece.

There are thirteen traditional award categories in total, each decided by a separate panel of expert judges, while an additional GAME award is voted for by the public, the One to Watch prize is awarded to the best Dare to be Digital competition entrant, and the BAFTA Fellowship will be awarded to industry legend Nolan Bushnell.

Call of Duty 4 was nominated in the Action & Adventure, Artistic Achievement, Best Game, Gameplay, Story & Character and Use of Audio categories.

Grand Theft Auto IV will contest it in five of those, while also being up for the Technical Achievement award.

Meanwhile Steven Spielberg is a potential winner with Boom Blox in the Casual category, while other notable nominations went to Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, Assassin's Creed and Dead Space.
