Help please. psp system software upgrade

Hello,when I try to load a new game on to my psp 1003 my system version is 3.40.and it must be updated to 5.03.When I do this It it comes up with (DADADADA) Can anyone help me as Im way to old to figure this out on my own

Is it custom firmware? DADADADA is by DarK_AleX and it happens when you try to run a real Sony update, which might be the case.
