Thumbs up My review of the Iplayer card :)

I got my Iplayer review card today along with my M3i Zero card!.....

Here's My review (Its quite a long indepth one as I tested many formats of files) ...

note:- (LOTS OF IMAGES to follow so dial up users BEWARE may take some time loading!!!)

    First some screen shots

    Spoiler!

Unboxing the card like with most DS cards It comes with a Usb Card Reader this time in Smart black plastic which

feels quite flimsy but works fine, It also comes with a disk that contains the loader/system files and a word doc manual..

also in the box is a nice glossy color printed mini manual/user guide
    Spoiler!

    Some more pictures

    Spoiler!

A nice Multilingual manual/instructions and included disk came in the box which includes ....
Instructions in several languages as well as a basic user guide
    Spoiler!

OK so now on with the review ....

For this test I will be using an 8gb class 6 micro sd I have spare ....

current version of the loader/player software kernel at time of testing is iPlayer OS v1.0

    available here :

    **
    Linfoxdomain Flashcard Loader Archives link

    Official website ... link

    Official website intro/Manual link

For this test I will be using a number of different Media types as suggested/supported on the box these are

AVI,DIVX,MOV,RMVB,,ASF,FLV,3GP,MPG,WMV,MP3 I will test a couple more different ones such as FLAC and

,MP4,VOB to see if it will play them even though it does not state a couple of those formats.

First off to install the iPlayer OS to the mem card .... you need to download the kernel files from one of the links above **
Then you need to unzip/unrar or whatever you use to unpack zipped/compressed files with ..

You will now have a folder called _System .. put your mem card into the card reader and connect it to your usb port of the

pc ... now you need to drag this entire folder to your mem card to copy the system/loader files onto it!
    Spoiler!

Now put your mem card into your Iplayer card and the Iplayer card into your DS and start the DS up you need to do this

for the first time before putting any media onto your mem card to automatically create the necessary VIDEO and MUSIC

folders for your media files ..

(I made the mistake first time round making my own folders this caused freezes and corruption so just get the card to

    make the files for you!)

Once the interface of the Iplayer has loaded once shut down your ds and take out the mem card and put it back in the

card reader and you will now see the folders it created ...
    Spoiler!

all you need to do now is copy the files you want to use to the right folders for video and music .. for homebrew you can

run it from anywhere on the card I just made another folder for them.

Now on to testing some video clips ...

AVI: test movie.avi (note this was a full 2 hr movie i had on hd!!! )

    Spoiler!

result plays great although you have to change the settings to show in original size or it shows stretched!

    3gpp (Mobile Phone video) (test.3gpp)

    Spoiler!

result plays great but needs to be set to Full Screen in the settings otherwise it appears as a small square in the middle

    with an inch black border!

    Asf (test.asf)

    Spoiler!

result plays great full screen no problems

    MOV (test.mov)

    Spoiler!

    result works great plays fine!

VOB (test.vob this is a dvd file)

Result does not work locks up the Iplayer .. this was not on the list of formats but tested by me anyway!

    Audio formats tested various bitrates

    MP3,M4A,WAV,WMA,FLAC

all of these audio formats tested work and play fine!

    added bonus of Homebrew play!

Does the card have more memory or what? Moonshell does a great job, but iplayer plays WMV, AVI, and MOV flawlessly? Man, that sounds great.

The Iplayer boasts 32mb's on board memeory i believe, though I could be wrong. I have one (2nd one, first one went dead in a week,) and the Iplayer has taken over where my Cyclo did. I have to say that the only thing i found puzzling is that you can only play music that is directly in the music folder, it will not play subfolders inside the music folder. I allready wrote to the Iplayer team and suggested that they get rid of that. People like me like to keep thier files cleaned up XD
I want to see if someone could re-write the Quake builds to take advantage of the Extras on the iplayer.

It runs homebrew, don't know about the subtitles, but I'm thinking yes.
