General games The Future Of Gaming

    News via http://streetskaterfu.blogspot.com/2...of-gaming.html

Forget PlayStation3, Xbox360 and Wii. For the future of gaming there's no need of any big consoles containing the newest processors and disc drives. Only a broadband connection and a TV are required, I would prefer a HDTV to enjoy the graphic. The future is called Cloud Computing. Play the newest games with the very best graphics and engines without spending a hell of money for an expensive console.

The system is very easy to explain: The game itself runs on very powerful computer systems in a datacenter. The client (gamer) only needs to receive a video stream via a broadband connection. So if a new generation of games is coming out, there is no need to upgrade your computer or buy a newer console as only the datacenters need to update their systems. Games will be updated automaticly. The only thing you need to buy is a broadband connection and newer TV systems. HDTV is now, but soon we'll see Ultra HD. Ultra HD is the final generation of TV resolution. The human eye won't be able to see any difference between a videogame played on an Ultra HD TV and the reality.

One of those future systems is called OnLive. Currently the beta phase is running in America and the plan is to release it around X-Mas. Take a look:

This is ahead of it's time. In a few years or whenever most people have blazing fast internet connections, this could be possible.

Latency is going to be a major problem to work out first.

The trouble is the marketing droids keep on trying to sell this (Have a look at what Jobs did when he left Apple for a bit in the 90's). 'Cloud computing' is just nothing more than what Dumb Terminals used to be with prettier pictures.

Coming from someone who's actually had to *use* Dumb Terminals/Thin Clients I can tell you it's not a fast, action packed experience.

It'll never catch on for the same reason that some people don't like using public transport. Why would you use the same crappy service as everyone else when they can just drive their own (better) car for a bit more money.
