Fixed a blown controller board on my Dreamcast. A short on a standard controller on power up resulted in picture and sound but no controller input on any of the ports.
Performed a simple fix that involved removing the controller board, desoldering and soldering in a new 10 ohm 1/4 watt resistor, resistor 6 pack 1 from Maplins. The resistor acts as a fuse and is soldered at the F1 socket on the board. Note that when removing the controller board the flat controller cable is a bit fragile so wiggle it out slowly. Cheap fix and the kids are happy!!

Modifying any game console runs the risk of damaging it. Also as soon as you crack the case you void the warranty on. Ask yourself if the modification is worth the risk of destroying your game console.

Yes it is - especially if the console is old and near worthless.
