A whole bunch of Xbox LIVE Arcade games from now bankrupt Midway Games have vanished. The games, oddly, remain on Sony's PlayStation Network.
The Midway games that have disappeared include Cyberball 2072, Defender, Gauntlet, Joust, Root Beer Tapper, Smash TV, Paperboy and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. As deal site CheapAssGamer points out, these games are still available for purchase via Amazon. It is unconfirmed whether those codes will work or not.
Still, for gamers who have already purchased the games, this is troubling. If they ever have trouble with their Xbox 360's Hard Disk Drive or if they ever delete these games, that's it, they are screwed. Unlike normal games, these games cannot be downloaded again, because they are gone. It would be the equivalent of losing these games. Yet, the loss would not be due to the owner's carelessness, but to decisions on Microsoft's part.
To be fair, Midway's bankruptcy has most likely made a mess of the company's back catalogue. This could very well be fall out from that.
Kotaku has reached out to Microsoft for comment.
