The last note has apparently been played by Square Enix Music, rumors website Square Enix Music Online.
At the end of last year, the group was disbanded for budgetary reason, leaving composer casualties that include:
Masashi Hamauzu (Final Fantasy XIII, Dirge of Cerberus, SaGa Frontier II)
Junya Nakano (Final Fantasy X, Threads of Fate, Musashi: Samurai Legend)
Tsuyoshi Sekito (The Last Remnant, Dawn of Mana, Founder of The Black Mages)
Naoshi Mizuta (Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy Gaiden, Founder of The Star Onions)
Kumi Tanioka (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Chocobo Series, Code Age Commanders)
Takeharu Ishimoto (The World Ends With You, Dissidia, Compilation of Final Fantasy VII)
These individuals were employed by Square Enix for anywhere between 12 to 15 years. According to Square Enix Music Online, many of these composers will entire, while others will continue to make a go in the game industry.
Square Enix Music Online adds that the company will apparently rely on independent composers for future titles as opposed to in-house composers — similar to how many Western game developers operate.
