Last week, Chiaki Kuriyama, best known in the West as Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill, released her first CD single "Ryusei no Namida", the theme for Gundam Unicorn.
Based on a series of popular light novels, original video anime Gundam Unicorn debuted on Sony's PlayStation Network on February 20 with the six-episode series getting a Blu-ray and DVD release later this month. RX-0 Unicorn Gundam has already begun making appearances in video games, starting as an unlockable mobile suit Gundam vs Gundam Next for the PSP and arcades.
Kuriyama, who sings under the moniker "CHiAKi KURiYAMA", does a solid, if not surprising job for her first single. The song is very, well, Gundam-y, and her voice is a nice fit. It's all so effortless!
Previously, it was rumored that Kuriyama would be appearing the film version of Tekken, a rumor she denied when I interviewed her for my upcoming book on Japanese schoolgirls.
