General games Ubisoft DRM outage due to ‘attack’

    via MCV

Following a weekend of server trouble that lead to some gamers being unable to play their copies of Assassin’s Creed II or Silent Hunter V thanks to Ubisoft’s new internet-only DRM, the publisher has apologised for the outage – adding that the problems were down to an “attack” on its server

It also insisted that only five per cent of players were affected by the six and a half hour outage.

“Ubisoft would like to apologise to anyone who could not play Assassin’s Creed II or Silent Hunter 5 yesterday,” a statement read. “Servers were attacked and while the servers did not go down, service was limited from 2:30PM to 9PM Paris time.

“95 per cent of players were not affected, but a small group of players attempting to open a game session did receive denial of service errors. All players with an open session during the attack were not affected.”
Ubisoft went on to again affirm that the DRM on both games has, despite claims to the contrary, yet to be broken.
