ps3 PS3 Final Fight: Double Impact requires PSN connection

Final Fight: Double Impact may be a collection of retro games, but some owners of the PS3 version have discovered that it is, at heart, a little too modern. The game will not run unless the user is signed into an online PSN account. If you try to load up Double Impact while not signed in, you'll just get a curt "Sign into PlayStation Network. (80029516)" message on the screen. (The Xbox 360 version launches without issue, even when not signed into Xbox Live.)

While it may not be a big deal to most of us who are signed into PSN whenever we use our PS3s, it does make us wonder why Capcom or Sony don't allow people to play the game, even in single-player or local multiplayer, without an internet connection. We've contacted both parties about the issue. Anyone else appreciating the irony of having to be connected to the internet to play games made before most of us knew what an internet was?

Sony's new end user agreement says they can automatically update fw without permission so you gonna see even more games that force you to be online to make sure there's no chance you can run Linux.

Unfortunately, the PS3 System Software EULA has always said that. Its not a new clause: its been there since v1.0. I'm not trying to defend Sony here (I am a firm believer that what they did by removing Other OS was and is illegal both in the US and the EU), but there's nothing new here in the EULA.

Now, if they actually did update without permission and removed portions of your data, they'd really be setting themselves up for a lawsuit.

Has it? If that's the case, then Sony probably added that message in the update list as a reminder they can do said actions at any time.

Still, why be made to go online just to play a game? It's not as if Final Fight: Double Impact is some MMO like World of Warcraft or something, is it?
