Wii Virtual Console Image

A reader, He Who Must Not Be Named, sent us a promotional image he somehow got his grubby hands on. It's a promotional illustration for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console, presumably featuring characters from all the games that will be released in emulated form.

I read elsewhere that that image isn't really a promotional image, rather its just a very well done fan made image.

If this is a fanart - then what I think is interesting are all of the crossovers. Hopefully this is more than fanart, but for now I guess all we can do is enjoy the art, and wonder.

EDIT: Also, anyone see Mario in that pic? There's Luigi, and there's Adventure Island guy... but no Mario... (to save the princess from Protoman...?) I don't see Link or Megaman either, though both are represented in other ways - enemies, Link's owl friend, etc. Weird.
