64% prefer discs to digital

New research claims that consumers consider physical product to be more important in games than in newspapers, films or music.
A survey of over 1,000 people by research firm Ipsos MediaCT found that 64 per cent preferred physical discs for their games over digital copies.
Newspapers followed closely with 63 per cent opting for hard copies. Conversely music and film were considerably lower, with a respective 45 and 51 per cent shunning digital.
“I believe the preference for physical discs amongst next gen gamers reflects the potential value they derive from the pre-owned market, which is holding up the preference for physical – this is unlike the music and film markets,” said Ipsos MediaCT director Ian Bramley.
“Physical games discs have a long and well-established history, which is a deep mindset to change – particularly when gamers build a physical collection as they fear losing digital versions. And in-store browsing is also important to buyers.”

I don't care who here says DLC is a good thing for whatever reason you got. The fact is every single person likes to own what you bought on your own terms and digital content is only yours on the sellers terms and just takes a company to go bust to lose it, then you have to resort to piracy to get back what's already yours.

There's still terms on physical copies. For example you can't copy the disc and give or sell them to others. Also, in most cases you can backup your digital content. It wouldn't make sense to download a product more than once.

There's also terms the government/local council has on owning a house or car but you can sell or even demolish them if you want.

Digital copies has it's ups and downs, a major one is monthly data usage. Coming from a country where 5-10gb a month is common and 15gb can easily cost $40-50, it's not a perfect solution downloading.

It's usually more expensive to buy and download a copy online. Which is where pirating comes in, the ease of not having to leave your room and also avoid spending more than you would buying online..

There is alot to be improved.
