Default SONY OPTS FOR CAUTIOUS PSP LAUNCH !

Sony will opt to play safe on the PSP, choosing to concentrate most of its resources into manufacturing, marketing and profiting from the new slimline PS2, according to the latest from an SCE spokesperson.[br]Speaking in an Agence France-Presse article, SCE spokesperson Kenichi Fukunaga said that: "We are entering a phase where we profit greatly from PlayStation 2, It was a matter of reaching the optimum allocation of our resources."[br][br]According to latest estimated reports, Sony will only ship 200,000 units of the new handheld console for its launch date of December 12 in Japan, backing that up with a further 300,000 before the end of the year. "We are being very careful about this project," Fukunaga-san said, "We did not want to have lots of PSPs on inventory." [br][br]Sony seems to be opting for a cautious approach, possibly after having its fingers singed with the launch of the PSX last year. This in stark contrast to Nintendo's DS, which launched in the US last week and which many see as the PSP's main rival. Nintendo is apparently planning to ship some five million DS consoles by the end of March.[br][br]Fukunaga-san reportedly went on to confirm that the PSP may not be profitable for a few years, with the Japanese giant apparently expected to initially make a loss on each PSP console shipped. Nintendo's DS by contrast is expected to be profitable within its launch window and contribute to the company's financial health.[br][br]However, Sony may be planning to play a longer game, with the PSP's ultra-aggresive price point expected to attract both gamers and developers into supporting the platform. Fukunaga-san went on to confirm as much, saying: "At that price, software houses should be encouraged to create game titles. Competitive pricing and software titles should push up sales in the short run."[br][br]Whichever way the new war goes, it's certainly fascinating times ahead for handheld watchers

You're joking, right? Please, someone, tell me he's joking. Even if it's a lie.
