IRC Chat AMD slashes Phenom II processor prices

AMD has released reducing pricing for the Intel rival's range of desktop Phenom II processors including four and six-core models.
The firm's six-core AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition dropped by nearly 10 per cent and is now priced at $239 in volume. Meanwhile the cheapest six-core processor, the Phenom II X6 1055T was slashed by an even greater 12 per cent and is now priced at $175.
The price cuts to the AMD Phenom II processors comes at a time when arch rival Intel suffered a serious blow to the roll out of the firm's Sandy Bridge platform with the 6-series support chipset flaw halting the flow of Sandy Bridge compatible mainboards.
With price cuts across the range of competing processors between 5 per cent and 13 per cent, AMD look set to capitalise on Intel's Sandy Bridge misfortune.
Intel woes aside, the aggressive pricing of chips such as the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T signals the introduction of six-core processor power into the mainstream PC market.
