I am having trouble with my headset!!!!

This is the headset I purchased and I am having trouble getting it to work for Black Ops. Do I need to sync the headset or controller first? It seems I have the right quandrants matched up but nobody can hear me. Any ideas?

I wouldn't have though either would matter. Maybe have a look in system settings for any options that refers to headsets.
