An ITV documentary aired last night in UK reportedly used footage from PC war sim Arma II as evidence of the IRA’s procurement of weapons from Colonel Gaddafi.
The film, called 'Exposure – Gaddafi and the IRA' supposedly showed a scene of IRA militants gunning down a helicopter using vehicle-mounted weaponry.
However, the clip was actually sourced from a fan-made Arma II video.
Marek Spanel, the CEO of Arma II developer Bohemia, toldGamasutra that he knew nothing of the ITV’s move prior to last night’s airing: "We were not aware of this video.
"First of all, we are very surprised to see in-game footage referred to in the documentary as real IRA film from 1988. We have no idea how this footage made it to the documentary. Our games are very open and allows users to freely do a lot of things, I see this is somehow a bizarre use of creative freedom.”
