If there was any remaining doubt that FIFA is the runaway market leader in the football genre, it has just been extinguished.

Speaking to Gamerzines yesterday, EA Northern Europe boss Keith Ramsdale claimed FIFA 12 has been outselling PES 2012 by a giant margin.

"When you look at Pro Evolution Soccer versus FIFA, only five years ago in the UK PES was outselling FIFA. On its first weekend like-for-like we've just outsold PES by 25 times.

"That's a sign of the momentum and the fan base and community behind FIFA, and let's be clear, an absolutely kick-arse game. It's unbelievable."

FIFA 12 shifted 3.2 million units in its first week on sale to break sports game launch records, and topped the UK chart during its first two weeks of availability. Meanwhile, PES 2012 debuted at No.5 on the chart on Monday, three places behind its rival.

Fair play to EA, FIFA 12's brilliant, but it's still a shame to see a once mighty competitor slipping down the league sales-wise, if that is indeed the case. Here's hoping for a closer match-up when the two series next collide.
