Some kind of push into education has been rumoured for Apple since Steve Jobs died, and various observers have discussed the legacy he was planning for himself (the other is a big attack on the TV space).
Now, the company has sent invitations to reporters for an event on Wednesday January 19th at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
"Join us for an education announcement in the Big Apple,” the invitation says - in chalk.
It's not the hardware launch many were hoping for - or it could be, given Apple's capacity for surprises - but it could still represent a significant new direction for the firm.
God knows how it will work given the national and local variations in curricula, but there's no doubt the world's teachers will be paying attention.
