Fake game splurge on Android Market.
The problem of rogue apps seems to get worse by the week, and threatens to de-rail the progress of the Android platform in particular.
These products pose as real, well-known games, and once installed re-direct the user to ads or – worse – set up diallers that sap credit from the user's account.
They can also post ratings and share themselves on social networks for further propagation.
Malware specialist Trend notified Google of the rogue apps, which removed them soon after.
Tend analyst Kervin Alintanahin blogged: “Quite obviously, this trend of apps being equipped with aggressive advertising methods — especially those related to search monetization — will be seen for quite a while. Thus, users are advised to be extra careful when installing apps.”
