nVidia unveils first DX10 GPU

nVidia's GeForce 8800 GTX GPU is the first DirectX10-supporting graphical processor unit to be announced.

DirectX10, in case you were unaware, is being introduced with Microsoft's Windows Vista and promises to take PC gaming to a whole new level. DX10 is being employed in the likes of Crysis, Crytek's jaw-dropping PC first-person shooter.

nVidia says that it's GeForce 8 series features numerous "ground breaking technologies". Elaborating, the company's spoken of "A revolutionary new unified shader architecture delivering teraflops of raw floating-point processing power for incredible levels of graphics performance 128-parallel, 1.35GHz stream processors and NVIDIA Quantum Effects physics processing technology ushering in a new generation of visual effects and real-time graphics realism Simultaneous 16x anti-aliasing and 128-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting for unparalleled image quality". You can breath in now.

:GeForce 8 graphics cards are actually available now, but - ouch - they cost. The GeForce 8800 GTX, for example, will set you back around 500 quid while the GeForce 8800 GTS is around £400.
