Modders will be pleased to know that their game-altering antics are a major focus of the newly-announced SimCity game.
The new SimCity is is driven by Maxis' new engine, GlassBox, which it says "powers each simulation with real integrity in order to capture the world we live in today".But more importantly for modders, the developer says the engine has been specifically "built to be moddable".
"We're huge fans of our modding community," said creative director Ocean Quigley to a GDC audience (via Shack).
"We know modding is hugely important to our community," Quigley noted. "We know the reason why people are still playing SimCity 4 ten years later is because the modding community has kept it alive. GlassBox is built to be moddable, but beyond that we haven't announced anything," he added.
He also said "we're using the same package format The Sims and SimCity 4 used," which should make it easier for SimCity 4 modders to make the jump to GlassBox.
While holding off properly announcing mod support, that's a close to official confirmation as you'll get.
