Firmware update, yet again

The PS3 has got a new update 1.31 and the Japan version is out.

It should be out for the US PS3's soon too. Well this seems to be becoming a regular feature of the week now that PS3 gets an update. Being updatable as a feature now seems like additional maintenance work. As if the Windows updates were
not already annoying this game machine too will now need udpates every now and then i suppose.

Isn't it good that consoles get updates for security and extra features? I think so, at least. But Sony shouldn't release too many minor updates as that is quite annoying.

It fixes issues with certain PS2 games and compatibility with PS2 games that use the HDD, so great news for owners of those games.

Besides annoying it also tells you that they tried to release it too soon and did not have all the bugs worked out.

when people have the issues that the updates fix, I'm sure they are more than happy to get several in a month. Updates are only a pain if you do not need them (any platform)

Its mainly because people who own really obscure PS1/PS2 titles may not be able to play them.

They e-mail sony, they obtain a copy and then realse new firmware which can read the games coding.

does it really matter if the PS3 gets newer firmwares reguarly or not, I don't think it does to be honest cause it's not like the PS3 is anything like the PSP where updates are bad cause the only thing on a PSP to avoid upgrading is the homebrew scene.
