A steam-powered car on an interstate highway, for instance, would be an anachronism. Similarly, playing a game that dramatically pre-dates the technology you're playing it on is delightfully anachronistic.
Case in point, 1987's Final Fantasy is now available for Windows Phone. It also allows ancient cave-people like the Joystiq staff to reflect on how far technology has come, and gives young whippersnappers a chance to impress their friends by pretending to remember a game that came out before they were born.
