The mobile tail is wagging the PC dog.
Microsoft unveiled its new phone OS earlier today and as expected the platform proves just how pervasive and victorious the mobile user interface has become.
The firm has already previewed the main desktop OS, Windows 8, and it included all the swipe-able tiles and draggable icons we've come to expect from a phone OS.
So few were surprised when WinPho 8 built on the template.
The phones will feature Microsoft's new "Metro" style, which is based around touchable live tiles that update constantly. The same template is used for Windows 8.
But, of course, this is more than a cosmetic similarity. It also helps developers because the two systems share much of the same code, making it easier to write for mobile, tablet and PC.
