A proposed $99 console built on Google's Android operating system has hit its $950,000 fund-raising target in just eight hours on crowd-funding site Kickstarter.
The campaign went live earlier today and has so far attracted around 8,000 financial pledges.
The Ouya console – which carries a proposed release date of March 2013 – will run free-to-play software that any developer is free to upload. Furthermore, buyers will be provided with software that enables the 'hacking' of the console.
Backers include former Xbox exec Ed Fries and One Laptop Per Child designer Yves Behar.
UPDATE: Shortly after publication Ouya had attracted $1,015,652 with a total of 8,155 backers.
