iOS tablet accounts for 17m units of the overall market.
IDC has released its Q2 estimates for the tablet market, and says that shipments crossed the 25 million mark, rising from 18.7m in Q1.
That's a 33.6 per cent increase quarter-on-quarter, or more impressively still, a 66.2 per cent rise year-on-year, up from 15m in Q2 2011.
The data points to the iPad for the stimulation, as the Apple sold more than 17m units of the iOS device during the quarter, up from 11.8m in Q1.
Tom Mainelli, research director, mobile connected devices, IDC, said: "Apple built upon its strong March iPad launch and ended the quarter with its best-ever shipment total for the iPad, outrunning even the impressive shipment record it set in the fourth quarter of last year.
"The vast majority of consumers continue to favour the iPad over competitors, and Apple is seeing increasingly strong interest in the device from vertical markets—especially education. While iPad shipment totals are beginning to slow a bit in mature markets where the device saw early traction, growth in other regions is clearly more than making up the difference."
