Microsoft is to cease using the word Metro as the name for the distinctively designed user interface in Windows 8.
According to Ars Technica, the surprise development has come after the German retailer, Metro AG, threatened the software vendor with legal action.
From now onwards, staff have allegedly been told to refer to it as the ‘Windows 8 style UI’, although the company has indicated that a different name is in the pipeline.
“We have used 'Metro style' as a code name during the product development cycle across many of our product lines,” reads Microsoft’s press statement.
“As we get closer to launch and transition from industry dialog to a broad consumer dialog, we will use our commercial names.”
