Translation: a quarter of the US population.
eMarketer says 82 million US-based mobile users will access their social media accounts via phones at least once each month in 2012.
Of that figure, 95.5 per cent will log on with their smartphones, making them twice more likely than a feature phone user.
82 million accounts for a quarter of the US population, but the number is set to spike to almost half of all Americans within two years.
Meanwhile, Facebook will dominate with 70m accessing the network from their phones each month this year.
That's 85.4 per cent of total mobile social networkers, rising to 87.4 per cent by 2014 – equivalent to four in ten mobile users and two-thirds of smartphone users.
