Microsoft has launched the mobile version of its Windows 8 operating system.
The launch event featured a celebrity endorsement in the form of pop songstress Jessica Alba who was called on stage in order to have the new OS demonstrated to her.
New features include Kids Corner, a worry-free way to share the phone with children; Live Apps, which bring constantly updated information to the phone’s front screen including flight information, news headlines, Groupon deals and Facebook upodates; Wallet and NFC for rapid transactions; Skype and 120,000 other apps available on the Windows Phone Store.
“We can’t wait for the world to meet Windows Phone 8, the most personal smartphone there is,” said Terry Myerson, corporate vice president of the Windows Phone Division at Microsoft.
“Windows Phone 8 comes on a range of phones that are stunning, colourful and unique.”
