Default Intec PSP Case Review Hardware Review

One thing that goes hand-in-hand with the launch of a new system, be it a console or a handheld, is an extensive lineup of supporting accessories. From magnifiers and memory cards to overhead lights and fancy controllers, every unit sees a slew of extras released alongside it, and of course Sony’s PSP is no exception.

The first handheld unit from Sony, the PSP offers the company an expansion into a market with a lot of unrealized potential and yet a monopoly, mostly because only one company has delved into the market aggressively enough. As every gamer knows, though, it’s not the units themselves that make the cash, but the software and accessories that get sold for it. And, sometimes for the opportunists, that make the cash for the third-party companies.

Intec is one such company with a simple lineup of PSP accessories now available for consumers, and one such product is their PSP leather case. The case itself comes with an attachable shoulder-strap and a handy belt clip. Intec boasts of its “heavy duty” stitching, with after getting my hands on the case I’ll have to agree with, and when you’re building a carrying-case that’s an important detail.

The PSP fits snugly inside the case, protected by a light black velvet lining that is nice on the screen if you’re still without a screen protector. Probably the most important feature of any carrying-case is its securing mechanism, in this case a magnetized button that firmly snaps into place.

There’s not much to Intec’s simple black leather carrying-case, but when it comes to mobility the only things that matter are how snugly the device fits inside, and how safe it is to handle, which Intec did well; I can’t imagine the PSP sliding out of the case, though I also can’t imagine someone paying a large amount of money for a device, buying a case, and then swinging the two around carelessly. The only slight fault is in the bland graphical design – black on black. It’s leather so it’s forgivable, but offering colored variants and some sort of graphical design – blue on black, etc. – would have added some pizzazz.

For roughly $10-15 it’s not bad if you’re just looking for a simple case.
