Developers will receive free BB10 smartphones as a sweetener to produce titles for new OS.
Games publishing platform Unity currently offers multi-channel development tools for desktop, web, consoles, and mobile, with the latter portion comprising Android and iOS.
Unity is now looking to strengthen its mobile division and has started work on a BlackBerry 10 plug-in. This will enable more than 1.5m Unity developers to publish games for smartphones running the OS, and also the PlayBook tablet once it can support BB10.
BlackBerry will provide Unity developers with BB10 smartphones to support the testing of games, while the two firms will run regular developer events in Europe and North America to stimulate solidarity.
David Helgason, CEO, Unity Technologies, said: "Unity developers have an extensive catalogue of incredible mobile games, many of which are award-winning.
"We’re excited to offer Unity developers easy access to the new powerful and rich BlackBerry 10 platform. We’re eager to provide them with another exciting avenue to have their games devoured by an audience hungry for entertainment."
A free beta version of the Unity BB10 add-on and free smartphone will be provided to a limited number of developers in spring, with a final release expected in summer.
