Games publisher Ubisoft has disabled its digital download service uPlay following a breach, which allowed users to obtain games for free.
The exploit, which was found by a Russian hacking group, allowed users to download an executable file, which when run, tricked the service into believing the user had already purchased a title and granted the download.
Along with uPlay's wide portfolio of existing titles, users were able to get their hands on the yet to be announced Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the standalone expansion to Ubisoft's highly acclaimed Far Cry franchise.
Following the exploit, Ubisoft took the decision to suspend download through the service temporary, until the issue could be resolved.
"[We are] aware of the issue and are working to resolve it quickly,” the publisher told Polygon. "No personal information was compromised. Uplay's PC download service will be unavailable until the problem is fixed however all other Uplay services remain available.”
The issue follows in the footsteps of rival publisher EA's games service Origin, which suffered asimilar setback recently, as an exploit within the software effectively left users' PCs vulnerable to malicious attacks.
