Samsung plans to go big with its next mid-range smartphone.
There have been a number of rumours about the Galaxy Mega, some said it could be as big as 6.3-inches. It turns out SamMobile was spot on with its 5.8-inch prediction, which would make the firm’s next handset even bigger than the Galaxy Note II.
Industry sources told DigiTimes that 5.8-inch smartphone panel orders have been placed with a few Taiwan-based makers, with shipments to begin in May or June.
The sources also revealed that Samsung is issuing the orders to Taiwan-based firms so its in-house production can focus on AMOLED panels.
Oversized handsets seem to be growing in popularity, with phone makers such as Huawei releasing huge-screened smartphones. The company unveiled what it deemed ‘the world’s biggest smartphone’ at CES in January, which came in at 6.1 inches.
