BabyTime initiative is used to connect parent and child if complications arise during birth.
The Maxine Dunitz Children's Health Centre at Cedars Sinai in West Hollywood has launched an innovative iPad-based campaign called BabyTime, which is used to connect mothers to newborns when complications have occurred during birth.
It means mums that are bedridden after a cesarean section or other problems can connect to their baby via the Apple tablet even when based on different floors, with medical teams conducting the usage across secure web connections.
Charles F. Simmons Jr, MD and chair of the Cedars-Sinai Department of Pediatrics, said: "BabyTime will help bridge communication with the family and the baby's medical team and is an excellent use of technology to help new mothers bond with their babies, even when they cannot be physically at their babies' bedside.
"When doctors and nurses are treating a newborn in the NICU, mom can be right there asking questions and getting updates, even if she’s on a different floor."
He adds that around 30 per cent of mothers that have C-sections aren't well enough to leave their bed and leave the labour department to visit intensive care for around 48 hours.
