The Datel packaging is suspiciously similar to the M3 Simply packaging (a different cardboard insert and a slightly different shape in the very center (a circle instead of a triangle). The M3 is of course just a re-packaged R4.

My guess is Datel is also re-packaging the R4, with some firmware modifications to prevent cart ROM usage. Just a guess...

    Nope. Not yet.

And anway, is it available anywhere but over the internet? That'd be real cool if it was.

Personally I don't think its really that bad that Datel is offering this product without the ability to boot backup roms. If home brew seeks to legitimize itself and get it out in front of a wide audience it needs to keep possible piracy at an arms length. If people out there see that theres a possibility that a wide audience, not just the more tech savvy, will benefit from their efforts then they will be more likely to want to experiment and produce software wouldn't they? Everybody wins! Besides there are plenty of companies offering excellent backup playing carts :P

To me it's just another add-on amongst the endless array of add-ons for DS...

As an entry into homebrew, I think it's fantastic. Including a small SD card already for under Ŗ20... excellent stuff.

I won't be switching this with my MMD. I've seen a lot of people gripe about the MMD but it's actually really nice. I'd say 3/5 games I try work for it and easy-to-convert movie access is very nice too. Of course it's not the best out there but it's a nice and affordable way to go...at least for me. Unless they really show something unique with this my MMD will do just fine.

Oh and it isn't THAT big...unless you're playing it on the Lite then it sticks out a bit.

If it came out of the box with DLDI support I'd agree with you. The people who own this arn't having a ton of luck with them yet. We'll see.
