GDC: Crytek's new tech to power virtual world

Crytek's impressive new technology that's powering its equally impressive FPS Crysis is to be used by company Avatar Reality to build a massively multiplayer virtual world (MMVW).

It makes Avatar the first company to license Crytek's new engine - CryENGINE 2 - and the MMVW will be a terraformed Mars where people can "live their fantasy lives by creating personalized characters, or avatars, in a beautiful environment."

So a bit like Total Recall then maybe but minus Arnold Schwarzenegger and the tons of brutal violence.

A sad lack of people shouting 'Dont shoot! you'll crack the dome' as well if its terraformed yes I have a fondness for Total Recall and the short story its based on but that bit isnt in that one
