A new DICE studio is set to open in Los Angeles, following EA’s acquisition of a multi-year agreement with Disney to develop and publish Star Wars universe games.Onetime Star Wars developer LucasArts, once beloved of PC gamers, went the way of Obi-Wan back at the beginning of April. After The Walt Disney Company added LucasFilm to its intellectual property stash, following the acquisitions of Marvel, Pixar, ABC, ESPN and many more, it disposed of LucasArts.“There is an extreme talent pool over [there] that we want a part of,” general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson told the Wall Street Journal. “It’s no secret that our main competitor is there.” Referring, presumably, to Activision studios Treyarch and Infinity Ward. It appears that members of the Medal of Honor studio Danger Close and EA LA have been taken on already.Given DICE’s focus on Battlefield and given the interest in a revival of Battlefront, our best guess is that the studio will be focussing on producing a new iteration in the franchise – Troedsson told . There’s no word what use Knights of the Old Republic developer and wholly-owned EA subsidiary Bioware will be making of the renewed license.
