At a press conference today at Computex 2013, the two firms unveiled a new tablet prototype designed for an unnamed OEM.
Li Gong, CEO of Mozilla Taiwan, and Young Liu, general manager of Foxconn revealed at the press conference that the two firms will be working on at least five devices, and these would not be limited to smartphones and tablets.
Liu stressed that Foxconn was in prime position to extend Mozilla’s OS into television screens.
Both parties were keen to point out that Foxconn would remain a manufacturer and not a brand, with the purpose of the collaboration being to optimally integrate Mozilla’s OS with hardware.
There were no specs or price points revealed for the tablet prototype, but Li did state that Mozilla believed its HTML5 OS would help position itself in both developed markets and emerging ones.
