Supermarket giant looking to sign people up while they shop.
Tesco is trialing a new mobile initiative, which will aim to encourage shoppers to sign up for the store’s Clubcard via an in-store iPad, Market Watch has reported.
The Tesco Clubcard loyalty scheme already boasts more than 17 million subscriptions and will look to add to this number with it’s new scheme.
Developed by mobile marketing firm Incentivated, a dedicated app is hosted on iPads that are attached to the store’s walls in specially created branded cases.
So far, the trial has been rolled out in four London Tesco Express stores: Tottenham Court Road, St. John's Wood Terrace, Lisson Grove and Melcombe St (both in Marylebone).
Customers who sign up via the app will receive an SMS receipt to confirm that their details are being processed. They will also receive an email confirmation in the same way that they do for consumers who register online.
The news follows recent reports that Tesco has begun pushing targeted ads to its customers via Clubcard TV.
