Developers to gain access to pre-release hardware and SDK before public launch next year

Microsoft has opened applications for its Kinect for Windows developer kit program.
Those who sign up will gain early access to information to start building apps for the Kinect for Windows sensor.

Developers will receive a pre-release version of the sensor hardware and software development kit in November. A replacement of the completed sensor hardware will also be made available upon public release next year.
The program will cost applicants $399, and developers must sign up by July 31st to be considered.
The Kinect for Windows SDK is also set to get a number of updates in September, including the ability to develop desktop applications using HTML5 and JavaScript, enhancements to Kinect Fusion, including improvements to tracking and accuracy, and the ability to extract the user from the background in real time.
