Google is encouraging PC retailers to attract new customers by placing local ads within its Google Maps app for smartphones and tablets.
It has launched an update for Android and iOS devices (including the iPhone and iPad), that will aid users searching for a 'PC store' for example, by listing all their local computer retailers on the map screen.
Relevant ads on the Google Maps app can now appear at the bottom of the screen after a user performs a search. These include a title, ad text, and a link to get directions.
When a user clicks an ad to get location details, they will see the address, phone number, photos, reviews and more.
Local businesses can add their details for a fee, which Google says is a standard cost-per-click charge. It charges up to two paid clicks per ad impression.
Some free actions include saving business information for later, sharing a business with a friend, or starting navigation.
View the Google AdWords blog for more information on how to place local business ads.
