Default DIY USB Extension cable for PSP

pc-mobile.net posted a tutorial on how to create a USB extention cable for PSP camera and GPS-290 unit

    http://pc-mobile.net/psp_miniu_extension_diy.htm

You may use one to improve the reception of the GPS unit, have a security camera setup, etc

I just made an extension cable tonight, and I gotta say it works great. When I first got my gps-290, it would never see more than 2-3 satellites. I tried for weeks and couldn't get it to lock on to anything. I just walked outside with my extension cable, and it immediately saw 8-9 sats and I got a lock right away. I went for a drive and it stayed locked for the entire 40 km's!

I used the following parts: (digikey part numbers)
    MINI USB PLUG - H2955-ND
    MINI USB RECEPT - H2960CT-ND

a terminal i ripped out of an old usb port
a spring loaded terminal pin used for in-system programming ('borrowed' from work )
    an xbox extension cable

If you've got a broken xbox controller, the cable works great because its standard USB plus one yellow cable, so you don't need to run extra wires alongside.

If you do get these parts, be warned they are smt versions so the spacing on the pins is really small, you'll need a fine tip iron and some patience. Definitly worth it tho!
